Cross after cross is flung into the heart of the Arsenal penalty area, but each time the Gunners’ defence are just about able to deal with the danger. The final time sees Zouma get a head on the ball, but his effort on goal is stopped by another Cech save. Chelsea are seeing a lot of the ball inside the Arsenal half of the pitch but are finding it incredibly difficult to find a way through the sea of red and white shirts camped in front of them. The Gunners are defending their one-goal lead extremely well. Monreal clips Hazard from behind and leaves the Belgian in a heap on the floor and in some discomfort. The referee keeps his cards in his pocket but awards Chelsea a free kick in a dangerous position on the right wing. IT’s all kicking off! A poor challenge from Gibbs on Matic results in every outfield player clashing in the middle of the pitch, with Coquelin doing his fair share of pushing and shoving in the heart of the scrum. The referee does well to quell the unrest before awarding Chelsea a free kick in a promising position.
It’s all over and Arsenal have held on to win the Community Shield for the second year in a row! This is also Wenger’s first ever victory against Mourinho, and what a way to do it!
